Amorphophallus bulbifer

Amorphophallus bulbifer
100 (150)cm, one of the smaller and handier species with large orange rose colored spathe of some 40cm in height and a speckled stem. Its' leaflets are slightly undulated and have bright-pink margins in a sunny spot. Very easy in any humus rich, well drained soil. The corm endures slight frost in autumn if it is planted rather deep (up to some 20cm/8") and sheltered from excessive moisture. The leaf will die back with first freezing as it is not sufficiently winter hardy for a permanent open garden cultivation in C Europe and N USA. Store corms from late autumn to end of spring in a dry and cool place during winter. Makes some bulbils in leaf axils, which may serve for vegetative propagation. 8cm to 12cm ø tubers are flowering size. VII-VIII.
