100 (180)cm, a medium sized to tall Mediterranean woody, evergreen shrub from partially shaded to sunny spots in woods. Makes short, dark green, narrow leaves and short, rather smooth "spines", and small yellowish flowers followed by blackish-green fruits in autumn and winter. Young shoots can be eaten cooked or fried just as regular Asparagus. For any rich, well drained substrate in full sun throughout the year. In winter keep drier at a minimum of some 5°C.
