Gladiolus uysiae
7 (15)cm, a dwarf species with fragrant showy pale purplish upper and yellowish lower petals on short stems. Native of clay rocky soils from Bokkeveld Escarpment and western Karoo to Ceres. For any rich, well drained soil in a sunny spot. Requires a good winter protection (i.e. dry mulch layer). Best grown in pots under frostfree conditions in a cool greenhouse or wintergarden with reduced watering and a winter minimum of some 5°C. VII-VIII.
