Hibiscus coccineus (Scarlet Rose Mallow) |
180 (240)cm, Scarlet Rose Mallow or Scarlet Hibiscus is an utmost beautiful, yet still rarely cultivated perennial herbaceous shrub from wet areas in S USA (Georgia, and Alabama to C Florida). It makes tall annual stalks with quite large, brilliant scarlet red flowers above palmately-divided leaves. The latter as well as its stems are nicely red tinged. As in the related Swamp Mallow (Hibiscus moscheutos) the stalks die back in winter and re-sprout in following spring. For any very humus rich, always slightly moist soil in full sun. During winter stop watering and preferably cover the dormant rootstock with a mulch-layer to give some additional protection from freezing through. VII-IX. 10 seeds per package. More Details » |
