20 (30)cm, a perennial with dark evergreen, iris-like leaves and upright stalks with delicate china-blue flowers in early summer. Native of rich, semi-moist soils in mountain meadows in Chile. For any humus-rich, always slightly moist soil in a sunny to partially shaded, protected spot. In cold areas give some insulating dry mulch layer against freezing through of the ground.
