Phytolacca insularis (Korean Pokeberry)

Phytolacca insularis (Korean Pokeberry)
3 (4)m, Korean Pokeberry is a very rare, fully winter hardy species which is highly threatened in its habitat in open spots in montane woods in Korea on grounds of over-collection for its anti-viral medicinal properties. Makes impressively tall, loosely branching stems from a massive perennial rootstock and several upright, cone shaped, white inflorescences followed by decorative purple-black and glossy berries at the end of summer till autumn. The stalks emerge in early spring and are fast growing to their size. For any rich, well drained soil in partial shade or full sun. VII-IX.
