Salvia canariensis (Canary Sage)
150 (200)cm, Canary Sage is a tall, semi-woody, perennial shrub from medium altitudes on the western Canary islands and Gran Canaria. It makes several bright rose (pure white in the Tenerife form) flowers, which are embedded in beautifully contrasting, dark lilac red pseudo petals. The pale bluish green leaves are densely covered with white hairs in the common form, in the form from western and northern Gran Canaria the leaves are not pubescent and plain fresh green. An easily cultivated species, which may be grown as an perennial in pots or as a fast growing annual. Sow under glass in early spring and transplant to the garden after the last freezing nights in late spring to early summer. VI-IX.
