Salvia mellifera (Black Sage)

100 (130)cm, Black Sage is a showy perennial woody species from California (USA). It has white to sky blue flowers above dark green, strongly aromatic leaves. As this species is primarily spring flowering it is best grown in pots under frostfree conditions to enjoy its blooming. In winter keep pot plants slightly dryer in full sun. A very drought resistant species. If grown in the open garden give some winter protection at its base (i.e. dry mulch layer) to prevent from freezing through. USDA Climate Zone 7/8. III-V.
