Hibiscus coccineus (White Texas Star Hibiscus)

160 (200)cm, White Texas Star Hibiscus or White Rose Mallow is an utmost beautiful, naturally ocurring rare white flowering form from the regular scarlet colored version. Hibiscus coccineus is perennial herbaceous shrub from wet areas in southern USA (Georgia, and Alabama to central Florida). It makes tall annual stalks with very large, tropical looking, pure white flowers above palmately-divided leaves. As in the related Swamp Mallow (Hibiscus moscheutos) the stalks die back in winter and re-sprout in following spring. For any very humus rich, always slightly moist soil in full sun. During winter stop watering and preferably cover the dormant rootstock with a mulch-layer to give some additional protection from freezing through. Plants come true from seeds, i.e. seed raised offsprings will be all white flowering. VII-IX.
