150cm, growing in large clumps in Transkei, S Natal and S Zululand at 1.500m. Has few short leaves, dense spikes of large bright pink to scarlet flowers. For any well drained, rather inorganic soil in full sun. Requires a good winter protection (thick mulch layer), or cultivate under almost frostfree conditions in an unheated greenhouse or wintergarden. VI-VII.
