Skyblue Southern Star is a large genus from Central and Southern America. Only one species, Oxypetalum coeruleum, is in general cultivation. It has most ornamental sky-blue flowers in terminal clusters above smoothly haired greyish-green leaves. The decorative, horn-like seedcapsules release brownish-black seeds on silky parachutes. Easly cultivated in any rich, very well drained soil in full sun throughout the year. In winter keep drier at a minimum of some 15°C. Sow flat in any humus rich, sandy soil at a minimum of some 20°C throughout the year. Keep pots in a sunny spot, drier in winter. 20 seeds per package. |
