Goji Beery and Wolfberry or Boxthorn are deciduous small woody thorny shrubs with usually arching stems and native of dryish, sun-exposed sites on all continents. They have small lilac flowers followed by fleshy bright orange-red berries. In several Asian species these are called Goji and used for their medical properties in traditional Chinese medicine. For any rich, well drained soil in a sunny and rather dryish spot. Sow seeds flat in any rich, well drained soil and keep pots in a protected spot outside. Seeds require a prolonged cooling period prior to germination in late spring. Carefully transplant young plants to the final spot in the garden as soon as they are strong enough or in autumn after leaves have withered. All are USDA Climate Zone 6. 20 seeds per package. |
