100 (120)cm, Purple Milkweed is a much sought after species from open spots in woods of Indiana, from New England to North Carolina, and from Minnesota to Arkansas, USA, where several populations are threatened. Asclepias purpurascens has most attractive pure purple flowers in a terminal cluster on an erect stem with broad, mid green green leaves. In the garden trade Asclepias purpurascens is hopelessly confused with the much more common Asclepias incarnata. However, it can be easily distinguished from the latter by its much broader leaves and always uniform purple flowers, wheras in Asclepias incarnata flowers are bicolored in pale rose and whitish rose. For any humus rich, well drained soil in a sunny spot. Our seeds are from true-to-type Asclepias purpurascens. VI-VII. |
