Physalis alkekengi (Chinese Lantern)

50 (70)cm, Chinese Lantern is native to the Andes in South America and was introduced into Europe in 1548. It makes whitish-green flowers followed by a highly ornamental, orange inflated calyx and a bright orange fruit inside (not edible). Easily cultivated in an rich, well drained soil in a sunny to partially shaded spot. VI-VIII.
