50 (80)cm, Hitchhiker Elephant Ear is native of the Himalayas, where it grows in humus rich soils and as an epiphyte on shrubs and trees. It makes nice clumps with decorative, very large, oval, glossy leaves, and an ornamental inflorescence with a completely downfolding lemon yellow spathe and a shortly protruding pale cream spadix appendix. It usually multiplies by leafless stolons covered with many small tubercles which serve for reproduction. For any rich, well drained soil in partially shaded (summer) to sunny (winter) spot. Keep drier in winter at a minimum of some 10°C. VI-VIII. |
