Jurinea mollis (Silver Giant Scabiose)

70 (100)cm, Silver Giant Scabiose makes ornamental, greyish green, deeply serrated leaves in a basal rosette and several stout upright stems each topped by a solitary large, bright lilac flower ball. A rarely cultivated, long-lived perennial from mountain meadows in the Alps and central Italy. Seeds will be always very scarce as plants in cultivation make only very few viable seeds. For any rich, very well drained soil in full sun. Excellent in the rock garden. V-VI.
