Penstemon jamesii (James' Beardtongue)

25 (40)cm, James' Beardtongue makes a perennial a basal rosette of bluish green, hairy, linear to lance-shaped leaves and upright stems with showy, white to pale blue or pale puple, broad trumpet shaped flowers. Penstemon jamesii is native of rocky soils from southcentral USA to northern Mexico. For any rich, very well drained, slightly rocky or sandy soil in full sun. Excellent in a protected spot in the rock garden. V-VI.
