Melothria pendula (Guadeloupe Mini Cucumber)

200 (400)cm, Guadeloupe Mini Gourd is a vigorously fast growing herbaceous perennial climber from southern USA to Central America and can be grown as an annual. It has numerous small, oblong, white dotted and lined mini cucumbers which are very similar to those of Melothria scabra and which are edible while still being immature. Mature fruits are toxic and have a highly laxative effect. Easily cultivated in any humus rich, well drained soil in a sunny spot. Either grow as an annual or keep the dormant rootstock in winter rather dry at a minimum of some 10°C. VI-IX.
