Matthiola incana (Brompton Stock)

50 (80)cm, Brompton Levkoje is an annual to biannual species from costal areas in southern Europe and the western Mediterranean. Matthiola incana is similar to Matthiola maderensis and basically differs by narrower greyish-green leaves, a more branching habit and smaller but more numerous flowers usually in violet-pink shades. For any rich, well drained soil in a sunny spot. Best grown as an annual, sow in early spring under glass and transplant to the garden after the last freezing nights end of spring. VI-VIII.
