100 (170)cm, a showy smaller species with silvery-grey leaves in a basal rosette of up to 50 cm in diameter and an upright growing, red-stemmed raceme with nicely contrasting, dark-purple, to almost black flowers. Puya coerulea var. coerulea is a very fast growing Puya species and may reach flowering size after just three year under appropriate cultivation conditions. It is native of mountainous sites in rocky, dryish places in Chile. In winter keep plants almost completely dry in a sunny spot at a minimum of some 7°C.
