It is native of rich soils in mountain meadows and open spots in woods in the Rocky Mountains (Utah north to British Columbia and Alberta). For any rich, well drained soil in a sunny spot. Seeds from a certified wild collection in Park County, Wyoming, USA at an altitude of some 2,900m. V-VI.
