20cm, Rio Grande Copperlily (syn. Habranthus andersonii) has showy, rich copper-yellow flower trumpets before the narrow leaves emerge. It is native of mountain meadows in the south-western USA and one out of few reasonably winterhardy species. For any rich, well drained soil in a sunny and sheltered spot. Excellent in a protected spot in the rock garden. Alternatively grow in pots under frostfree conditions at a winter minimum of some 10°C and careful watering. USDA Zone 8. V-VI. |
