Lobelia polyphylla

140 (200)cm, a semi-woody perennial from Chile with upright, branching stems ending in a raceme with showy, dark burgundy red, funnel shaped flowers above narrow leaves. For any rich, very well drained, rocky soil in a sunny spot. It is reasonably hardy in the mildest areas of Central Europe, yet requires a good protection from winter wetness and freezing through. Alternatively grow in pots under frostfree conditions in a sunny spot and at a winter minimum of some 5°C. V-VIII.
