Fremontodendron californicum (California Flannel Shrub)

150 (250)cm, California Flannel Shrub is a tall woody shrub to small tree with beautiful mallow like, hairy greyish green leaves and golden yellow flowers. It is native from California to Arizona, growing in dryish, rocky sunny sites. For any rich, well drained soil in a sunny, protected spot. Give some additional winter protection from freezing through. In colder climates preferably grow in containers under frostfree conditions. In winter keep plants dryer at a minimum of some 5°C in full sun. Seeds from a certified wild collection in Paynes Creek, Tehama County, California, USA at some 1.000m. VII-VIII.
