Chorizema cordatum (Heart-leaf Flame Pea)

80 (120)cm, Heart-leaf Flame Pea is a upright growing shrub with several thin branches from southwestern Australia. Chorizema cordatum makes dark green, narrow and slightly glossy leaves and showy, rich orange flowers with a yellow eye and rather large, magenta lower lips. For any rich, well drained soil in a sunny spot. Keep plants drier in winter at a minimum of some 15°C. Seeds are from a form with entire and non spiny leaf margins. What in the garden trade is offered as Chorizema ilicifolium usually is the prickly form from Chorizema cordatum - real Chorizema ilicifolium is not in general cultivation. VI-IX.
