25 cm, Giant Prairie Lily (syn. Cooperia pedunculata) is native from southwestern USA (Texas and New Mexico) to Mexico. It makes greyish-green leaves and pure white, sweetly scented flowers. Flower are amongst the largest in its genus and start to open in the late afternoon and will fade the following day between midday and the early afternoon. Zephyranthes drummondii is not to be confused with another very similar, yet overall much smaller white flowering species, namely Zepyranthes chlorosolen (syn. Cooperia drummondii, syn. Cooperia chlorosolen). Easily grown in any rich, well drained substrate. In winter water plants carefully and keep them at a minimum of some 10°C in full sun. Our seeds are from a rarer self-compatible clone, so that a second clone is not needed for a successful pollination. IV-V. |
