150 (250)cm, broad, grayish green stems topped with a huge rosette of up to 50cm long, broadly serrated, glossy, mid green leaves and a terminal, lax branching inflorescence of very large, bright yellow flowers. Native of rich soils in partially shaded to sunny spots, especially in central Madeira. For any rich, rocky, well drained soil. Partial shade in summer, sunnier in winter at a minimum of some 10°C. These were sown in the spring in temperatures of around 25°C.
They sprouted approx. 6 weeks after sowing. Now I have 4 plants from 10 seeds. They will need morning sun only in warm climates like mine.
