Solanum sisymbriifolium (Sticky Nightshade)

100 (150)cm, Sticky Nightshade is an annual to short-lived perennial tropical plant native of South America with strongly dissected leaves on stems armed with long spines and showy large white flowers fading to pale mauve. Flowers are followed by up to 2cm large bright red fruits, which are edible when fully ripe and have a slightly sweet flavor. For any rich, well drained soil in full sun. Pre-cultivate in pots at some 20°C in early spring and transplant to the open garden after the last freezing nights at the end of spring. VI-IX.
