It has has a perennial rootstock and makes fast growing annual, iris-like leaves and long shoots in spring. It has ornamental, quite large, purplish to sky blue, or rarely white flowers in dense terminal clusters. For any humus rich, sandy soil in a sunny to partially shaded position. V-VII.
