160 (250)cm, Wild Sunflower is an annual species and parent to many garden hybrids and cultivars. The wild species is an elegant plant with an upright, branching stem and several medium sized, bright yellow flowers surrounding a brown central disk. Native of south-western USA and Mexico. Either sow under glass in spring and transplant seedlings after the last freezing nights end of spring or sow directly into the ground in early summer. For any humus rich, well drained soil in full sun. We offer several strains which have been selected from our plants: a mixture of various types of the wild species, a rich yellow flowering type with larger flowers, a rich yellow flowering type with normal sized flowers and an utmost beautiful strain with pale lemon yellow flowers with narrow petals.
