Lobelia excelsa (Devil's Tobacco)

250 (450)cm, Devil's Tobacco is a very tall mountainous perennial from Chile with upright, semi woody stems ending in a raceme with showy, scarlet to orange, funnel shaped flowers above narrow leaves. For any rich, very well drained substrate in a sunny spot throuout the year. It is not reasonably hardy in Central Europe and best grown under frostfree conditions at a winter minimum of some 10°C and careful watering. Offered seeds are from orange flowering plants. V-IX.
