Caiophora coronata (Ortiguilla)

20 (40)cm Ortiguilla is an utmost showy herbaceous perennial with a dense basal rosette of glaucous, spiny leaves and unusually large, ice white flower cups at soil level. Native of dryish rocky spots in montane regions in Chile. Fully winter hardy in any rich, well drained soil in a protected spot in the garden with a very good shelter from winter wetness. Caiophora coronata is best grown under cold glass. VI-VII.
